300 Hour Mat + Pilates Teacher Training

regarding form

regarding form teaches movement education, exploration, and empowerment. We believe passionately that physical intelligence is an undervalued, vital skill that supports a full and rewarding modern life. Through this lens, both as teachers and teacher trainers, we encourage individuals to cultivate their own unique and informed movement practices. These practices should be gratifying, productive, and durable, and facilitate a positive relationship with moving one’s own body.

We approach the Pilates Method from a contemporary angle, offering a discipline that is highly adaptive for any practitioner’s specific needs and goals. Our approach to Pilates is not an exclusive one. We also strive to shepherd the Pilates legacy with care and reverence for its early iterations. With these goals in mind, the re:form Pilates Teacher Training offers immersion in the traditional form of each exercise, as well as the tools to rework choreography creatively in deliberate, functional, and impactful ways.

This training consists of a 140-hour Applied Anatomy and Pilates Mat module, which may also be completed as a standalone certification, followed by a 160-hour Reformer module. Students are methodically prepared to teach Pilates in a variety of different environments at a highly professional level — from boutique fitness studios to private practices, and beyond.

Foundational musculoskeletal anatomy

Fundamentals of functional movement

Traditional mat and reformer Pilates choreography

Strategies for adapting choreography to suit a wide range of situations and goals

Engineering an innovative and creative class

Scholarship Information

re:form offers two forms of financial aid for the barre teacher training program. One is a full scholarship, the other is a partial scholarship that offers 50% tuition relief. For each training, one recipient will be chosen for each type of financial aid.

Full Scholarship (100% of program costs will be covered by BECYCLE + re:form)

This representation scholarship is intended to remove the financial barrier to becoming a movement instructor for a member of the Berlin community whose voice we feel moved to amplify. On page one of our manual, the pillars of our method are listed. Among them is “inclusive and non-judgmental environment.” We believe that this cannot be fully realized without active intent to diversify our community from the inside out. In this context, we view diversity as the expression of a range of economic, ethnic, cultural, spiritual, and otherwise nuanced identities. Movement is an essential practice for everybody, and we believe that every body should find resonance in the voice of an instructor they can identify with. You should apply for this scholarship if you identify with a group you feel is under-represented in the fitness industry.

Partial Scholarship (50% of tuition cost will be covered by re:form)

This general scholarship is intended to lower the financial barrier to becoming a movement instructor for a member of the Berlin community who would otherwise not be able to undertake this training. We do not take lightly the financial commitment involved in beginning a career in movement instruction, and want to create better access to this deeply rewarding path. Part of the re:form ethos involves investing in enrichment of the fitness and movement industry. This scholarship is one way in which we aim to fulfill this vision. You should apply for this scholarship if you are looking for financial assistance, regardless of how you identify.

The application for this financial aid can be found here and must be submitted by September 1, 2023. The recipient will be notified by September 5, 2023

The Fine Print:

Payment: a non-refundable €400 (+ MwSt) deposit is due upon registration. Tuition remainder can be paid in one or two installments, and is due by September 15, 2023 (two weeks before the start of the AMA module). Payment is available by bank transfer only.

Additional Terms & Conditions can be found in the Barre Teacher Training Participant Contract, which all participants must review and sign in order to register for any Teacher Training. Please email us to get started!

Applied Movement Anatomy

regarding form

re:form’s Applied Movement Anatomy workshop is an essential exploration of the fundamental musculoskeletal anatomy that fosters human movement. Now available in an entirely virtual format, this 20-hour course is a must for movement instructors and enthusiasts who want to know how the theoretical understanding of movement can be applied to and enrich movement experience in real life. We will identify and study the joints and tissues responsible for global movement by bringing awareness to relevant structures, muscles, and relationships in our own bodies, as well as give functional context to how these actions apply to a range of movements across a variety of fitness and movement disciplines.

In addition to identifying structures and relationships in your own body, you will learn fundamental joint actions, and put all this knowledge to work in a functional context. Applying this information, we learn to develop visual assessment skills, identify common misalignments, and will unpack a wide array general implications to build an arsenal of productive exercise modifications. You will examine some of the structures involved in respiration and learn how this anatomy can facilitate (or derail) functional breathing patterns in exercise. You will also come to a definitive understanding of the industry’s most ubiquitous yet misunderstood term: The Core.

Level Up: Using Language

regarding form

One of our most effective resources as teachers is language. Effectively communicating the mechanics or quality of a movement can facilitate a student’s connection to their movement practice in new and exciting ways, while thoughtless language can have the exact opposite effect, excluding students and undermining their relationship to their practice. We believe that language matters, and that students should expect a higher level of commitment from their movement instructors to precision, anatomical accuracy, and respect.

In this 3 hour virtual workshop we’ll dissect some of the most overused cues in fitness, and explore more nuanced alternatives. We’ll look at the difference between directional cues, image cues, feeling cues, and intention cues, and how to align their delivery with your own values as an instructor.

This workshop is for movement instructors of any modality who want to refine their use of language both inside of the studio and out.

Level Up: Tactile Cues

regarding form

re:form believes that the conscientious movement instructor is always exploring new ways to enrich the learning experience of their students. Just as important as what we teach, how we disseminate information plays an enormous role in that experience. While tactile cueing — the use of touch — is an often underutilized resource, it has the potential to be a highly potent tool in our kit.

In this one day in-studio workshop, re:form shares strategies for using our sense of touch with intelligence and respect for our student’s autonomy. We’ll review some relevant anatomical concepts and discuss how our understanding of what we see can influence what, when, and how we use tactile cues to help students find their own way to deepening a posture or refining their alignment.

This workshop is for movement instructors of any modality who want to improve their tactile communication skills with creativity, precision, and compassion.
